Products Description
Recarburizer, also known as carbon raiser or carbon additive, is an essential material used in the steelmaking and foundry industries to increase the carbon content of molten metal. It helps improve casting quality, mechanical strength, and chemical consistency. Our recarburizers are produced from high-quality raw materials such as graphite petroleum coke, calcined anthracite, or artificial graphite, offering excellent absorption rates and minimal impurities.

Application
Recarburizer is widely used in:
Steelmaking – EAF and IF carbon adjustment
Foundries – Enhancing carbon content in gray iron and ductile iron
Alloy Manufacturing – Optimizing carbon levels in various alloy compositions
Graphite Production – As a raw material for graphite electrodes and carbon blocks
How to Choose Good Recarburizer?
High Fixed Carbon – Choose products with ≥95% fixed carbon for better efficiency
Low Sulfur Content – Keep sulfur below 0.05% to avoid weakening castings
Uniform Particle Size – Ensures consistent melting and absorption
Clean Appearance – Low ash and low volatile matter indicate purity
Reliable Source – Partner with trusted suppliers who offer stable quality and supply

Case Study
Background
A mid-sized steel manufacturing plant in South Korea faced persistent challenges in producing high-grade carbon steel. The facility relied on traditional petroleum coke as a carbon raiser but encountered inconsistent carbon recovery rates, excessive sulfur content, and slag fluidity issues. These problems led to higher production costs, increased energy consumption, and rejected batches due to off-spec carbon levels.
Objective
The plant aimed to improve carbon yield stability, reduce sulfur impurities, and lower net production costs per ton of molten steel. The solution required a carbon raiser with high fixed carbon, low ash and sulfur, and optimal graphitization degree.
Intervention
After evaluating multiple options, the plant switched to a calcined anthracite carbon raiser with 98.5% fixed carbon, 0.05% sulfur, and 0.4% ash content. The new carbon raiser was added during the electric arc furnace (EAF) refining stage in two steps: 40% at slag formation and 60% after deslagging, using a pneumatic injection system.
Results
Over 12 production weeks, the following improvements were recorded:
Carbon recovery rate increased from 82% to 94%, reducing the required dosage by 12%.
Sulfur content in finished steel dropped from 0.035% to 0.022%, meeting premium grade specifications.
Energy consumption reduced by 8% due to better electrical conductivity of the graphitized carbon raiser.
Slag viscosity stabilized, decreasing electrode wear by 15%.
Total production cost fell by $4.20 per ton of liquid steel, saving the plant over $210,000 annually.
Conclusion
The adoption of a high-quality, low-sulfur carbon raiser directly improved metallurgical performance and cost efficiency. The case demonstrates that selecting the right carbon raiser-beyond price alone-delivers measurable gains in recovery, purity, and energy use. For steelmakers aiming to produce cleaner steels under tighter profit margins, engineered carbon raisers are a strategic input rather than a commodity.
