SiCa 30/60 Deoxidizer Desulfurizer For Steelmaking

Silicon Calcium (CaSi) alloy, grade Ca30Si60, is an ideal compound deoxidizer and desulfurizer composed of silicon, calcium, and iron. It is widely used in the production of high-quality steel, low-carbon steel, stainless steel, and special alloys such as nickel-based and titanium-based alloys.

Strong deoxidizing and desulfurizing capability: Calcium has a strong affinity for oxygen, sulfur, and nitrogen, making CaSi an effective compound deoxidizer and desulfurizer.

Inclusion modification: Controls the shape, size, and distribution of oxide and sulfide inclusions, improving fluidity, machinability, ductility, and impact properties of the final steel product.

Low impurities: Low aluminum, sulfur, carbon, and phosphorus content for clean steel production.

Customizable Si and Ca ratio: Silicon and calcium content can be controlled as needed.

Pulverization and deliquescence resistance: Stable performance during storage and handling.

Calcium has a stronger oxygen affinity than silicon or aluminum (Ca > Al > Si), enabling CaSi to scavenge residual oxygen that ferrosilicon alone cannot address. In pilot ladle trials, adding 0.8–1.2 kg of CaSi per tonne of steel reduced total oxygen from 32 ppm to 18 ppm, whereas ferrosilicon-only treatment resulted in 30–40 ppm. This 40–55% improvement in final oxygen reduction directly correlates with reduced porosity and improved mechanical properties.

Calcium also has a strong affinity for sulfur. CaSi cored wire injection achieves 60–70% desulfurization in ladle refining, with inclusion morphology transformed to spherical shapes. This is particularly critical for preventing nozzle clogging and ensuring steel cleanliness in continuous casting

Beyond simply removing oxygen and sulfur, CaSi fundamentally alters the morphology of non-metallic inclusions. It converts hard, angular alumina (Al₂O₃) clusters into spherical, low-melting-point calcium aluminates, which are less harmful to steel properties. This modification improves fluidity, machinability, ductility, and impact properties of the final steel product
