Introduction to High Carbon Ferrochrome

 

 

High carbon ferrochrome is an alloy of iron and chromium, with a carbon content usually between 4-9% and a chromium content of about 60-70%, as well as small amounts of silicon, sulfur, phosphorus and other elements. It is made by carbothermal reduction of chromite in a submerged arc furnace and is an important raw material for adding chromium to steel production.

High carbon ferrochrome is mainly used in the production of stainless steel and high chromium steel. Its high carbon and high chromium characteristics give it significant advantages in cost-effectiveness and performance optimization. Compared with the more expensive medium carbon ferrochrome and low carbon ferrochrome, high carbon ferrochrome has the highest cost-effectiveness and is also the most widely used in steel production.

According to the different carbon content, high carbon ferrochrome can be divided into:

  • Ordinary high carbon ferrochrome (C 6%~8%)
  • Medium-high carbon ferrochrome (C 4%~6%)
