Products Description
Silicon-magnesium alloy, also known as silicon-iron magnesium alloy and rare earth silicon magnesium alloy, is an important metallurgical alloy mainly used in the casting and smelting industries. It is composed of three elements: silicon, iron and magnesium. It is an excellent spheroidizing agent and has strong deoxidation and desulfurization effects.
Rare earth ferrosilicon magnesium spheroidizing agent is mostly used in the production of ductile iron: after adding silicon ferromagnesium spheroidizing agent to the molten iron treated with inoculant, the flake graphite will agglomerate into spherical graphite and remain undeformed for a long time.

Products Applications
The primary use of Silicon Magnesium is in the production of ductile iron, a type of cast iron where graphite is present as spheroids rather than flakes. This morphology provides greater tensile strength, ductility, and impact resistance, making ductile iron suitable for structural applications like:

SiMg is added to the melt during the nodularizing process, which typically occurs in the ladle just before casting. Several treatment methods are used:
In-ladle treatment: SiMg is added directly to the ladle, often with a cover of slag or flux to prevent oxidation.
Tundish cover treatment: The alloy is placed in a treatment chamber and covered with a ceramic or sand lid to reduce reactivity and fume generation.
In-mold treatment: SiMg is introduced directly into the mold cavity through inserts, ideal for small batch or specialized castings.
