Electrolytic manganese metal is a high-purity metallic product manufactured through a sophisticated hydrometallurgical process. The production begins with manganese ore, which is first subjected to acid leaching to extract manganese salts into solution. The resulting manganese salt solution then undergoes a series of rigorous purification steps-including iron removal by oxidation and neutralization, heavy metal precipitation using sulfiding agents, and deep filtration-to achieve the required chemical purity. This purified solution is then introduced into an electrolytic cell, where direct electric current is applied to deposit pure elemental manganese onto the cathode. The deposited metal is subsequently stripped, crushed, and processed into its final commercial forms.

 

The product is available in several physical forms to suit different industrial processes: standard flakes for bulk alloying, custom-milled powder for powder metallurgy and chemical synthesis, and compacted briquettes for easier charging and reduced dust generation. Packaging is offered in a variety of options, including woven ton bags, steel drums, and customized solutions tailored to individual customer specifications.

Electrolytic manganese metal is a high‑purity alloying material with a wide range of industrial applications, thanks to its excellent ability to enhance the mechanical and physical properties of metals and chemical compounds. Its largest and most traditional application is in the iron and steel industry, where it serves as a key alloying element in the production of stainless steel-particularly the 200‑series grades-as well as high‑strength low‑alloy (HSLA) steels, tool steels, and special steels. In steelmaking, it also functions as an effective deoxidizer and desulfurizer, helping to remove oxygen and sulfur impurities from molten steel, which significantly improves the cleanliness, density, and overall quality of the final product. On average, approximately 0.06 kilograms of electrolytic manganese is consumed per ton of steel produced globally.
