Product Introduction
Ferro Silicon (FeSi) is a widely used ferroalloy composed of iron (Fe) and silicon (Si). It is produced through the reduction of high-purity quartz (SiO₂) in combination with iron in electric arc furnaces. The typical silicon content ranges from 15% to 90%, with FeSi 65%, 72%, and 75% being the most common grades used in the industry.
As a powerful deoxidizer and alloying agent, Ferro Silicon plays a critical role in steelmaking, casting, and the production of other ferroalloys. Its strong chemical affinity for oxygen and excellent thermal properties make it indispensable in both ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgical processes.

Specification

Key Features & Benefits
✅ Efficient Deoxidization
Ferro Silicon effectively removes oxygen from molten steel, improving its purity and quality. This results in cleaner, higher-performance steels with fewer inclusions.
✅ Enhanced Mechanical Properties
The addition of silicon increases the hardness, strength, and elasticity of steel, making it ideal for high-stress applications such as automotive parts and structural components.
✅ Improved Castability
In cast iron production, FeSi enhances graphite formation and increases fluidity of molten metal, reducing casting defects and improving surface finish.
✅ Corrosion & Oxidation Resistance
Silicon significantly enhances a material's resistance to oxidation, scaling, and corrosion, especially in stainless and silicon steels.
✅ Thermal Stability
FeSi has excellent heat resistance, making it suitable for high-temperature environments and reducing agent applications in furnace processes.
✅ Customizable Composition & Particle Size
Available in multiple grades and particle sizes (e.g., 0–3 mm, 10–50 mm), Ferro Silicon can be tailored to specific process requirements and treatment methods.
Application
🏭 Steelmaking
Ferro Silicon is primarily used as a deoxidizer and alloying agent in the production of various steel grades:
Carbon steel
Stainless steel
Electrical steel
High-strength low-alloy (HSLA) steel
⚒️ Foundry Industry
Used as an inoculant to promote graphite formation and improve the microstructure in grey and ductile cast iron. It also reduces shrinkage defects during solidification.
🔥 Ferroalloy Production
Acts as a reducing agent in the manufacture of other ferroalloys, such as:
Ferro Manganese
Ferro Chromium
Ferro Tungsten
🧪 Magnesium Production
In the Pidgeon process, silicon from FeSi serves as a critical reducing agent for producing magnesium metal.
